More than 80 uninsured women over 40 years old underwent free mammograms at Sutter Diagnostic and Women's Imaging in Roseville on Saturday, during an event recognizing National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

A nurse also spoke with women about breast health and how to administer self-exams. Once the patients receive their results, those who have an abnormal result will be connected to local nonprofit agencies for follow-up care.

Sutter’s Free Mammography Day was spearheaded at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital in 2009, and was expanded as a result of the program’s early success, according to a press release. The annual event is now held in eight cities. For more information on Sutter Diagnostic Imaging centers, visit www.checksutterfirst.org/imaging.
