SureWest vice president announces retirement

Marsha Young of SureWest Communications in Roseville, announced her impending retirement as vice president of human resources. In February 2009, Young will retire after 12 years with SureWest and 27 years in human resources and business management. Young will spend her retirement traveling with her husband, while also doing occasional consulting work and teaching. Effective immediately, Karlyn Oberg will become vice president of administration, overseeing the company’s human resources and external relations functions. “This is an exciting time for two very valuable and well-respected employees at SureWest,” said Steve Oldham, president and chief executive officer of SureWest Commun-ications in a news release. SureWest also announced the appointment of David Herrick as controller. Herrick previously served as the company’s director of accounting and reporting. In his new role, he will be responsible for the corporate accounting function. “David is a proven leader at SureWest and has been an integral part of managing the expansion of our company into a multi-regional advanced communications provider,” said Dan Bessey, vice president and chief financial officer for SureWest in a prepared statement.
