Granite Bay High junior Katie Zingheim continued to set a high standard in the girls’ pole vault as she won the title at the Golden West Invitational Saturday. Zingheim vaulted 12 feet to take first place in her event, but she had company with some other impressive showings from local athletes inside Prairie City Stadium at Folsom High School. While not yet a freshman, just off her eighth-grade year at Cavitt Junior High, Clare Carroll made life miserable for a number of older competitors are she capture fourth place in the girls’ mile run. Carroll was the only non-high school runner in that event. Granite Bay’s Christine Zavesky was third in the girls 800, while Trent Brendel was fourth in the boys freshman mile and Allison Daly took ninth in the girls freshman mile. Oakmont’s Ferrin Peterson, one of Zingheim’s rivals all year long, finished seventh in the girls pole vault and a trio of Woodcreek athletes also fared well. Hannah Hardy was third in the long jump, while her sister Jordan ran to a sixth-place result in the 100-meter hurdles. Jacque Harvel also ran, capturing seventh in the 200-meter dash.
