Placer County wineries, restaurants, caterers and artists will be represented at Splash Roseville this weekend. Now in its 16th year, Splash Roseville was created out of a desire to hold a premier community event showcasing local food, wine, music and art, according to Wendy Gerig, CEO of the Roseville Chamber of Commerce. “We decided to call it ‘Splash’ because it is around the pool,” Gerig said. “Except there is no swimming.” More than 25 local restaurants and caterers will take part in this year’s event along with 15 wineries and 15 microbreweries from Northern California, Colorado and Oregon. New this year will be a karaoke lounge, a mobile video game truck and a photo booth. Darrell Madiera, executive chef at Crush 29 in Roseville, has been showcasing his food at Splash Roseville since 2005. “It is a good event for us because it is a Placer County event,” Madeira said. “People are dressed nice, out to have a good time. It is a good event to showcase the nicer restaurants and the nicer things that Placer County has to offer.” Madiera said he usually prepares dishes such as Dungeness crab rangoons, duck spring rolls and lamb tenderloin lollypops for the event. While he is still exploring his menu options, Madiera said he will likely do something similar to what he has done in years past. Ambient music this year will be provided by the Harmonics Steel Drum band. Later on in the evening, party-goers can dance to the 80z All Stars, Gerig said. Also offered this year is alternative transportation for those guests who elect not to drive. Driver Please will have personal drivers available for the Splash event for a small fee. Event attendees can sign up to reserve a driver in advance at www.driverplease.com, and the driver will arrive at the pre-arranged pick-up time to chauffer the guest home in their own vehicle. Rides can also be arranged upon arriving at the event, according to a statement. “While we do a great job of promoting the wineries and breweries, there are a number of non-alcoholic beverages available,” Gerig said. Gerig said a local taxi cab company has been notified of the event and service will be available. The party is open to guests 21 and over only and identification is required for entry.
