A local boy has passed away from heart failure, and family friends have organized a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Thursday, Dec. 1, to pay for his funeral service.

Justin Caldwell passed away Nov. 19. He was 12 years old. He formerly attended Excelsior School in Roseville.

Since July, he had been waiting for a heart transplant at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University in Palo Alto with his mom, Katie Caldwell, by his side.

When Justin was 8 months old, he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, an abnormally enlarged heart. At 2 years old, he had his first heart transplant. When he was 7, his baby sister, Emily, died from the same heart condition.
