Colfax’s High soccer team survived a wild day of weather Monday afternoon to register a big Pioneer Valley League win and clinch a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth. On a day where the foothills area was hit with wind, rain and cold-playing conditions, the Falcons used a three-goal second half to pull away from a 1-1 halftime tie and defeat Center, 4-2. Now 5-2-2 in PVL matches, the Falcons received a pair of goals from Ben Rooker and one each by Jake Logan and Jacob Ritchey to hold off the visiting Cougars. The win allows the Falcons to clinch third place in the PVL and secure the league’s three playoff berths. The post season will open on Nov. 1 at home sites. The Falcons host Bear River today at 3:30 p.m. Colfax’s JVs 2, Center 0 -- Receiving a pair of goals by Scott Irons, the JVs were credited with a 2-0 victory. The Falcons, who lead the PVL JV race, are now 7-1-1 in league matches.
