I have a wonderful story to share with you today and it is all happening because a very passionate Chamber member had a dream, and it is now coming to fruition thanks to his efforts and the support of many local businesses. Stephen Pease, local resident and businessman recently established South Placer Art in Public Places — a California non-profit, tax exempt, charitable corporation formed to bring public awareness to the importance of art in our community, and to raise much needed funds for a selected charitable partner. This year, South Placer Art in Public Places has selected CureBreastCancer, Inc. as the charitable organization to be the recipient of the funds raised by South Placer Art in Public Places. CureBreastCancer, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that was formed by Dr. Ernie Bodai, a physician with Kaiser Permanente and the founder of the Breast Cancer Research Postal Stamp. Through Dr. Bodai’s efforts, the Breast Cancer Research Postal Stamp has raised more than $70 million toward the fight for a cure for breast cancer. For additional information on CureBreastCancer, Inc., please visit www.curebreastcancer.org. The South Placer Art in Public Places 2010 Tour to raise funds for CureBreastCancer, Inc. will feature 16 6-foot-tall Breast Cancer Ribbons that will be artistically interpreted by local artists. The ribbons will be on display at various public and private venues throughout the Roseville area from June 15 through Sept. 20. Tour Maps will be available by June 10 and may be obtained through the Roseville Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, or by going online to www.SouthPlacerArtinPublicPlaces.com. On Sept. 25, South Placer Art in Public Places will have an End of Tour Celebration in the Promenade area at Westfield’s Roseville Galleria, where all 16 Ribbons will be on display and those Ribbons not previously purchased by a sponsor will be sold through auction. Additionally, the artists that interpreted the Ribbons will be at the celebration and the public will have an opportunity to meet them and to view and purchase their work. South Placer Art in Public Places is proud to include many businesses and individuals as sponsors for the 2010 Breast Cancer Ribbon Tour, and wishes to thank each for their generous contribution. Anyone interested in becoming either a sponsor for this year’s event or making a contribution toward CureBreastCancer, Inc. may contact Jan Pollo with The KMS Group of Companies at (916) 724-1011, or visit www.SouthPlacerArtinPublicPlaces.com. Isn’t this fabulous! I can’t wait to see what our local artists create — stay tuned for the debut of the ribbons on June 15. Wendy Gerig is the CEO of the Roseville Chamber of Commerce.
