Bears win eighth grade game
Tenacious fourth-quarter defense provided the opportunity for the Silverado Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team to earn an overtime win over Buljan on Tuesday. The Bears overcame a seven-point deficit at the start of the final stanza to tie the contest before outscoring the home team 6-2 in the extra session to take a 44-40 victory. Silverado center Tyler Milani dropped a pair of free throws in the waning seconds of overtime to put the game on ice. The points were the last of his of his game-high 18. Milani was the only consistent force keeping the Bears in the game for the first three periods, as a collection of low-post buckets of long-range bombs gave him 13 points through three quarters. He also grabbed 15 rebounds to set the standard on the glass. Buljan took a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter as a Daniel Rios shot from far beyond the arc dropped as the horn sounded. Rios scored five in the first and seven in the third in a 12-point game. The Bulldogs rode the shooting of Rios and Cole Jacobs to a 23-17 lead at intermission and then extended the advantage to 34-27 after three periods. Jacobs scored eight in the second stanza as part of his 12-point total for Buljan. Down seven entering the final seven minutes, the Bears turned up the defense, holding Buljan to just a single field goal and a pair of charity tosses in the fourth while unleashing Tristan York from downtown. York was scoreless in the first half, but drilled a 3-pointer in the third as he started to heat up. He struck twice from three-point territory in the final quarter and Max Morse scored on an old fashioned three-point play to bring Silverado even at 38 at the end of 28 minutes of regulation time. Buljan was unable to mount any consistent offense in the three-minute extra period as the Silverado comeback was capped by a four point final margin of victory. The Foothill Intermediate School Athletic League boys basketball season concludes with a full slate of games on Thursday.
