ROCKLIN — It didn’t come easy, but the Sierra College Wolverines nonetheless enter Saturday afternoon’s Valley Conference opener atop the Northern California rankings. Scotty Enos kicked the winning 42-yard field goal in Sierra’s 30-27 overtime victory at College of San Mateo on Oct. 4. The Wolverines jumped one spot to the No. 1 ranking. The Wolverines had outscored their first four opponents 180-58 before mustering a season-low 37 rushing yards against San Mateo, which outgained Sierra nearly two-to-one. Fresh off a bye, the Wolverines (5-0) will need a strong performance against the No. 7 Mustangs, whose duo of freshman quarterbacks have passed for more than 1,000 yards with only one interception. Sophomore Garret Andrews leads Delta with almost 500 rushing yards on 55 carries. The Mustangs have the best turnover ratio in NorCal. They’ve recovered 15 while giving away only five.
