Seven young women earn scholarships

Seven young women recently received scholarships from the Roseville chapter of P.E.O., an international philanthropic educational organization that celebrates the advancement of women by providing grants and loans.

The local scholarship recipients include Taylar Kelly, Julie Cantrell, Ashlee Petrilla, Sabina Nussipov, Emily Warren, Claire Halterbeck and Kayla Dean. The women, with the exception of Dean, attended a luncheon in their honor on July 12 at Sun City Roseville

P.E.O. was founded in 1869 and has several hundred chapters throughout North America. Chapter XF is comprised of women from Sun City Roseville, Sun City Lincoln, Granite Bay and the surrounding area and works to help Placer County women achieve their educational goals.

Raffle for Thomas Kinkade print

Valley Christian Academy is raffling off a limited-edition, signed print by Thomas Kinkade of Yankee Stadium to raise money for the Roseville school's baseball program. No more than 500 raffle tickets will be sold by Wednesday, Aug. 1. To purchase a ticket for $10, send a check payable to Valley Christian Academy, with "raffle" in the memo line, to 301 W. Whyte Ave., Roseville, CA 95678.

Proposed textbook on display

Roseville Joint Union High School District is considering a new textbook for adoption, and the book is on display for public review. The textbook is "Fundamentals of Physics Extended, 9th Edition" for IB Physics and will be on display through Tuesday, Aug. 7, and the board will vote on adopting the textbook at the Aug. 15 board meeting. The textbook can be reviewed at Downtown Roseville Library, Maidu Library, Martha Riley Library, Granite Bay Library, North Highlands/Antelope Library and the district office.
