Oakmont hosts book drive
Oakmont High School Interact Club’s Literacy Drive ends Friday, March 2. The project aims to promote literacy for young children from low-income families. Interact is gathering books, flashcards and other educational materials from Roseville libraries to donate to the UC Davis Medical Center. To donate, drop off new or gently used children’s book (pre-school to third-grade reading level) at a local public library. Downtown Library is located at 225 Taylor St., Martha Riley Library is at 1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd. and Maidu Library is at 1530 Maidu Drive.
Silverado hosts carnival
Silverado Middle School is hosting a Minute-to-Win-it Carnival fundraiser for its band from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, at 2525 Country Club Drive. in Roseville. There will be games, food, karaoke, raffle prizes and more. The middle school is located in the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District.
Wyotech rep speaks to students
Scott Gill from Wyotech spoke to economics classes at Adelante High School on Feb. 17 about career opportunities, such as plumbing technology, automotive technology, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), business management and more. Teacher Heather McQueen said her seniors were interested because they graduate this spring and they asked questions about the program and tuition.
“It was a great presentation, and Mr. Gill definitely had the students’ attention the entire period,” McQueen said.
ATOU visits Roseville school
A Touch of Understanding recently presented its disability awareness program to fourth graders at Sargeant Elementary School in Roseville. The Granite Bay-based nonprofit organization used stations to teach students about different types of impairments and tools used by people with disabilities. The school’s Parent Teacher Club funded the program.
