Merryhill kids donate toys

Merryhill School students in Roseville loaded a toy donation onto a truck Dec. 19 for delivery to the Child Life Program at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. They teamed up with Merryhill Schools in Rocklin and Sacramento on the project. To collect toys, each school set up giving trees and asked family and friends to make a donation based on the Child Life Program’s wish list. Last year, Merryhill schools raised more than $5,000 worth of toys, which was the largest single donation received by the hospital, according to a news release.

Host families needed

A foreign exchange studies program is looking for local families to host students ages 13 to 18 from Russia, Italy, Denmark and Spain from July 5 to July 31.

Lisa Stubenrauch, local organizer for Educational Homestay Programs, said she needs to sign up families soon to match students and organize the program.

Families are needed in Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, Loomis and Antelope. During the three-week stay, students attend English language classes and participate in field trips under the supervision of program staff from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Host families are asked to provide a bed, meals and transportation to and from drop-off locations in their neighborhood.
