John Adams students to attend summit

Five high school students at John Adams Academy in Roseville have been selected to represent the greater Sacramento area at the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge American Leaders Youth Summit in March. They are 11th graders Shawn Beyer and Christina Weist, and 10th graders Nathan Folkman, Waylon McKay and Sarah Peterson. These five scholars represent the largest delegation chosen for this honor from any school in the Sacramento area.

The summit celebrates the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights and their relevance in daily life. The program focuses on current issues facing the United States from a historical and global perspective on constitutional law and government and includes lectures, historical tours to Philadelphia and Valley Forge, and experiential workshops, designed to develop leadership skills and deepen an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of engaged citizenship.

Dry Creek administrator honored

The Placer County chapter of the Association of California School Administrators honored Ron Warfield as classified leader of the year on Feb. 25. Warfield is the director of facilities, maintenance, operations and transportation for the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District. He has worked for the district for 10 years, and previously served for 20 years with the Novato Unified School District in Marin County. The Dry Creek district operates 10 schools in Roseville and Antelope.

Merryhill kids donate goodie bags

Elementary students from Merryhill School on Sierra Gardens Drive in Roseville delivered handmade cards and goodie bags to the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento on Valentine’s Day. The nonprofit facility cares for 60 children per day who are affected by abuse or neglect. Students at the school worked together on this service project as part of Merryhill’s Character Education program, which promotes caring and giving back to others in need in the local community, according to a press release.
