Looks like title-holders of Miss Placer County pageants have something to truly smile about. Winners of Miss Placer County, Miss Teen Placer County, Jr. Miss and Jr. Teen Placer County, and Wee and Little Miss Placer County Fair have a chance to win scholarship awards from $25 to $1,000. The application deadline is April 22, to allow for training and rehearsals prior to the pageant competition during the annual Placer County Fair, June 23-27. The 2011 fair theme is “Goin Hollywood.” Depending on the age category, contestants may be interviewed and participate in choreographed dance routines. An orientation for any participants and their parents interested in learning more about the pageants and contests will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the Garden Room of the Placer County Fair. “Participating in a pageant is an exciting and rewarding experience for our youth who use the process to sharpen their talents, expand their leadership skills, and broaden their community service,” longtime pageant director Patty Kennedy said. Applications are online at or at the Fair office, 800 All America City Blvd. in Roseville. ~Staff Report
