The Rotary Club of Granite Bay and The Bring Me A Book Foundation celebrated Natio-nal Literacy Month recently with a ribbon cutting and presentation for the students of Cirby State Preschool in Roseville. Rotary Club members included Cristie Akers, Mike and Tina Calvert and Brenda Miller. The event featured the dedication of a kindergarten classroom library and read- aloud sessions with Rotarian Miller. With a student body that is approximately 80 percent Hispanic, these rolling libraries provide storybooks in Spanish as well as English. In addition to the read-aloud sessions the Rotary Club held a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the donation of a kindergarten bookcase library to the school. The ceremony was held at an ice cream social at the first parents’ night of the school year, and the rolling library consists of a maple wood bookcase filled with 35 brand new, age and culturally appropriate hardcover classic children’s books. The bookcases are provided courtesy of the Bring Me a Book Foundation and the books are provided by the Rotary Club of Granite Bay.
