Shayna Powless, a student at Roseville High School, won her third consecutive Northern California High School Mountain Biking Championship on Sunday in Cobb.

Powless will try for her third consecutive varsity state championship this weekend in Los Olivos, and her season won’t end there. Powless was one of eight cyclists selected to attend the USA Cycling Women’s European Mountain Bike Race Camp from May 24-June 6 in the Black Forest in Germany.

The developmental camp, run by 1984 Olympic road race gold medalist Connie Carpenter and USA Cycling mechanic Drew Geer, will include two World Cup races — one in Germany and one in Switzerland.

On her way to winning her third NorCal title, Powless won the Granite Bay prologue and then the Granite Bay Challenge. She also won the East Garrison event and the Laguna Seca Grand Prix.

Lacrosse teams wins tournament
The Grizzlies, a U11 boys lacrosse team from Granite Bay, won the Santa Cruz Surf City Tournament last weekend.

Granite Bay had a pool play record of 2-1-1 in the 10-team event and earned the fourth seed for the single-elimination portion of the tournament. The Grizzlies then won three games, including a 4-3 victory over the Burlingame Coyotes in the championship. Granite Bay tied the score with under five minutes left, and then took the lead for good.

Woodcreek sports night
Woodcreek High School will hold its informational sports night for incoming ninth-graders at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the school gymnasium. Coaches for all fall, winter and spring sports will attend to talk about the programs, hand out literature and take questions.
