Roseville West, Woodcreek to collide in District 54 9/10 winners' bracket final
Two blowout victories sent local 9/10 all-star teams to victories in the District 54 tournament Monday at Richards Field.
Woodcreek crushed Lakeside 24-0 in four innings, and Roseville West trounced El Dorado Hills 19-3.
Woodcreek scored six runs in the first inning and nearly batted around three
times in the second.
“The boys continue to play at a very high level of intensity,” Woodcreek coach Mike Watari said. “Pitching and defense are really the key to this team’s success so far.”
Zachery Watari, Carson Blatnick, Bradley Morin and Derek Taylor each pitched an inning for Woodcreek. Watari has all five wins on the mound in all-star play.
Tom Northam’s Lakeside squad will face El Dorado Hills at 7 p.m. Tuesday in an elimination game.
Roseville West and Woodcreek, the highest-scoring teams in the 9/10 tournament, will reunite a familiar rivalry in the winners’ bracket final at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Woodcreek averaged 14.5 runs in four games of pool play. Roseville West averaged 16.25. Both teams are 5-0 in the tournament.
“We are looking forward to the game. They are a good team and well coached,” Watari said.
Five Roseville West players had multiple RBI. Collin Goodell went 3 for 3 with three RBI, Richy Fobbs went 2 for 4 with two RBI, Justin Kim was 2 for 2 with two RBI, and Trevor Regan had one hit and two RBI.
