Five pitchers combined to allow just four hits as the Roseville West Mariners won their second game in the Little League District 54 junior division Tournament of Champions Saturday at Mahany Park. The Mariners scored first in the home half of the first inning, as Alex Roper singled and stole a base before coming around to score the game’s initial run. Roper was in the thick of things again in the third, as his double combined with singles by Tyler Winter and Marcus Garcia plated two more runs on the way to a 3-1 win over Ponderosa. “It was a close and exciting game, another pitching duel,” said Roseville West manager Thomas Garcia. “We are playing good defensive baseball and our pitching staff has been solid this far.” Jordan Loya started and pitched into the third inning, allowing no runs and just one hit with five strikeouts before Garcia took the committee approach the rest of the way. Roman Martinez, Garcia, Kyle Burger and Roper all followed Loya to the hill. Roseville West is back at Mahany at 5 p.m. Sunday to take on Snowline in a junior TOC semifinal contest. The winner moves on to Tuesday night’s final against the winner of the Maidu vs. Woodcreek semifinal.
