Roseville High School used a 12-point service run by Amanda Susbilla early in the fifth game to open a big lead and defeat host Rio Americano 3-2 in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division II quarterfinal volleyball match Thursday night. The Tigers (20-10), who finished fifth in the Sierra Foothill League, advance to the semifinals Tuesday against the winner between top-seeded Rocklin and Casa Roble. “This is something we talked about … that they’ve wanted for a long time,” Roseville coach Ron Grove said after the Tigers' 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-6 victory. “All these seniors have played a long time together. They wanted to advance one more round than last year, and that’s what they did.” The 13th-seeded Tigers knocked off a higher seed for the second time in three days. Roseville opened the playoffs by surprising No. 4 Vacaville 25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21 on Tuesday. Rio Americano (31-8), the runner-up in the Capital Athletic League, was seeded fifth. Abbey Wade, Stephanie Blumm, Simone Durham and Allison Campbell combined for 32 kills, and Hilary Coy had 25 digs. Campbell had 19 digs and Jessica Richardson 11 digs. Campbell and Blumm combined for seven aces. It was a kill by Blumm that ended the match. Trailing 2-1, Roseville forced a fifth game, and Susbilla went to work. She served to certain players and areas of the Rio Americano court, and Kali Lauhon set up Blumm in the front row as the Tigers pulled away.
