Roseville sweeps Woodcreek in Division II semifinals
Roseville High School defeated Woodcreek 8-2 on Tuesday to advance to the championship game in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II baseball playoffs.
The Tigers (21-9) swept their Sierra Foothill League rival 2-0 in the best-of-three series and will play Rocklin for the championship at 6 p.m. Monday at Sacramento City College.
Woodcreek (15-14) won two of three from Roseville in SFL play, but the Timberwolves committed three errors in the top of the fourth and fifth innings Tuesday, when the Tigers scored six runs.
Nick Blaser, Anthony Roberts and Dalton Blaser, the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 hitters in the Roseville lineup, combined to go 5 for 10 and scored seven runs.
Matt Maher pitched a five-hitter, walked one and struck out six, and Roseville's strong defense didn't commit an error behind him.
Nick Blaser, anchoring the infield at shortstop, handled seven chances without an error and caught John Peska's high popup to end the game. Maher threw 84 pitches.
Rocklin (20-9) is the defending Division II champion. Roseville took two of three from the Thunder in SFL play.
