Roseville, San Bernardino school deadlock 0-0 in softball
Kayla Fields pitched a two-hitter, struck out seven and faced one batter over the minimum as Roseville High School tied San Bernardino-Cajon 0-0 in the first round of the Victory Pre-Season Tournament of Champions on Thursday night at the Sacramento Softball Complex.
No Cajon runner reached second, and Tigers catcher Kalei Levy threw out one trying to steal.
Shortstop Lollie Fitzpatrick, third baseman Taylor McDowell and first baseman Delany DeMello all made great plays.
McDowell had two of Roseville’s four hits, but the Tigers stranded two runners at third and had another thrown out at home.
Granite Bay 3, Whitney 0 — Anna Goddi scored two goals and Christy Cooper one to lift the Grizzlies over the Wildcats. Granite Bay also lost to Davis 1-0.
Roseville wins in Fresno — The Tigers followed a 1-2 record on the opening day of the California High School Classic in Fresno by winning two matches on the second day and capturing the Division 4 quadrant championship in the largest tournament in the nation (close to 120 teams).
John Thompson and Monroe Chabrier each went 4-0 in the tournament. No. 3 singles player Jack Chien won a 45-ball rally with the team score 4-4 in the third-set tiebreaker and went on to a 10-6 tiebreaker and the win. Chien lost the first set and won the second set 6-4.
Roseville moves to 5-0 — Brian Brosnahan served five consecutive points in the third set to help the Tigers defeat Vista del Lago 14-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17. Josh Frost led Roseville with 18 kills. Connor Miller had 11 kills and Josh Lewis 10.
Roseville moved to 5-0 with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21 victory Thursday night at Ponderosa. Frost and Miller had 13 kills apiece.
JV boys volleyball
Granite Bay 2, Ponderosa 0 — The Grizzlies swept the Bruins 25-13, 25-10.
Ponderosa 2, Roseville 0 — The Bruins defeated the Tigers (2-2) 25-16, 25-16.
JV girls soccer
Granite Bay 2, Davis 1 — Kat Rowe and Rylee McKeon scored for the Grizzlies in their win over the Blue Devils.
Woodcreek 7, Sheldon 1 — The Timberwolves used four walks and six errors to beat the Huskies. Riley Adams pitched a four-hitter, walked one and struck out eight.
JV boys lacrosse
Granite Bay 14, Lafayette-Acalanes 5 — The Grizzlies, undefeated the last two years, started the 2012 season with a rout on the road. Lead attack man Dayton Allegra had a hat trick in the first quarter and five goals total, including a fast-break score on an assist by midfielder Josh Neal.
Andy Moudakis, Ben Smith and Dakota Burley each scored two goals, and Owen McNiff had three assists and a goal. Brandon White had two assists, and Carson Robbins and freshman Scott Zobrowski each scored a goal.
Defensively, Will Stabbert forced key turnovers, and Jackson Rodriguez had a team-high 10 loose-ball pickups. Keeper Ryan Arneson made eight saves.
