Every dog has its day, and now even triple digit heat or torrential downpours can’t put a damper on a day of fun. Four-legged friends have a new local hangout thanks to the new Wag Hotel All Day Play Resort that opened Monday in Roseville. The facility provides an indoor, climate-controlled environment for dogs to socialize and play while working around their owners’ busy schedules. The Roseville facility also includes full grooming and spa services to keep pooches looking their best. “The bottom line is we wanted to target busy families,” said Wag Director of guest services Jose Gonzales. “(Wag) is all about a professional, convenient place families can take their dog to be groomed and play with other dogs in a clean, safe environment.” The Wag play resort in Roseville features 2,000 square feet of indoor play space equipped with climbing rocks, a fire hydrant and plenty of chew toys and tennis balls to go around. Natalie McCaleb, manager at both the Roseville and Sacramento Wag Hotel locations and staff member Chelsea Cunningham keep the dogs running and entertained, even getting on the floor with toys, bringing the term dog pile to life. “These guys wear me out,” Cunningham said, after emerging from the floor after her eight charges pummeled her in pursuit of the tennis ball. McCaleb and Cunningham monitor the play groups that are divided based on size, temperament and play style for the dog’s safety. “We are uncompromising in the safety and health of our guests,” Gonzales said. “We are strict in enforcing up to date vaccinations and are cautious of animal’s temperaments, which is why we divide the play groups so the dogs feel comfortable in the play environment.” That kind of focused care is what initially attracted Roseville resident Patti Klein to the Sacramento Wag Hotel for her overnight boarding and what will continue to keep her dogs coming to the new Roseville facility. “They greet me at the door and know my dogs’ by name,” said Klein who drops her two poodles off for boarding at the Sacramento Wag Hotel several times a year. “I am thrilled they’re opening a play resort in Roseville because it will be that much more convenient.” Also, when she travels, the Roseville facility will transport dogs such as Luke and Rio to the Sacramento Wag Hotel for the duration of Klein’s trip, where the dogs will be put up for the night, fed and cared for as Klein prescribes. “I can drop off special food or medication. I can schedule out when they play or time to swim in the doggy swimming pool,” Klein said. “I can completely customize my dogs’ care and I can go online and check up on them by web cam, I never worry about how my dogs are when I leave on a trip.” Klein said her poodles are picky when it comes to playing in inclement weather. Which is where the all day play facility will come in handy, Klein said. “When it’s rainy or if it’s too hot outside I can just drop them off and have the peace of mind that they are being well-cared for and that they’ll come home happy,” Klein said. “The peace of mind is a big deal for me because they are my babies now. I treat them like I would my kids. What mom never worried about her kids when she was away?” Wag All Day Play Resort Where: 600 Commerce Drive Suite C in Roseville Hours: Monday –Friday 7 a.m.- 7 p.m.; drop off between 7-10 a.m. Cost: Daily play rate $30.
