The Roseville Police Department says it is “making strides” in solving the murder of Christopher Dale Northam, 44, of Rocklin. Northam, dubbed the creator of extreme skimboarding, was on track to open a first-of-its-kind extreme skimboard water park, called Skim X, in Roseville this summer. He was found inside Skim X, in the 8200 block of Industrial Avenue, with at least one fatal gunshot wound on Memorial Day. While Roseville police have not released any suspect information or possible motive, a search warrant was served to a home on the 400 block of China Rose Court in Lincoln on Friday afternoon in connection with the case. “We’ve served a search warrant at that address before,” said Lt. Mark Toupin of the Roseville Police Department. In fact, it was the second time a search warrant had been served at that address, but Toupin would not discuss who lives at the residence and what officers were looking for. Roseville Police Chief Daniel Hahn said the police department is deep in the middle of the investigation and following leads every day. “As is the case with many homicide cases, we don’t have a lot of information that we can provide to the community that would help the case right now,” Hahn said. Hahn said the department does not want to release any information that could jeopardize the case. Toupin said there are many positive leads, but Roseville police could still use the public’s help. “Usually, somebody knows something,” he said. “Either they saw something or they talked to somebody, or somebody may have been talking inadvertently and it had been overheard. That information is all of value to us.” This was the first homicide in Roseville since April 2010, police said. According to the Skim X website, Northam was an action sports enthusiast who moved to the Sacramento area from Southern California in 2005. He created with his son, Chris Jr., the concept of “Extreme Skim,” using a specially designed board to hydroplane on a ramp and execute tricks similar to those performed by extreme skiers and snowboarders.
