Roseville’s own Logan Roden placed third at the Play! Pokémon Trading Card Game State Tournament in Long Beach March 12.

The 9-year-old battled 41 fellow players during the full-day competition to earn this top California ranking and a medal. Logan, a third grader at Sargeant Elementary School, started playing the Pokémon card game almost two years ago.

Logan competed in the junior division for players born in 2000 or later. There is also a senior division for people born between 1996 and 1999, and a masters division for players born in 1995 or before.

The state championship tournaments are the second event in the Pokémon Championship Series. Premier Rating Points awarded there go toward a potential invitation to the 2011 Pokémon World Championships, which will be held in San Diego in August.
