Roseville grad wins scholar-athlete award at Sac City

Breanna Warnock of Sacramento City College was honored with the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Award and named one of its Top 25 women for the 2010-11 school year, according to the school’s website.

Warnock, a 2009 graduate of Roseville High School, was an All-Big 8 Conference first-team selection last fall and a second-team choice in 2009 for a volleyball program that went a combined 52-10 in those two seasons.

Warnock is third all-time at Sac City with 160 blocks and seventh all-time with 454 kills. She plans to attend Sacramento State next fall and major in Biology.

Valley Christian athletes sign with colleges
Basketball player Jesse Peters and football player Aaron Perchaz have signed to continue their playing careers in college.

Peters, a 6-foot-7 center/forward, signed with Southwest Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. He averaged 7.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game in helping the Lions to a 25-5 record. Valley Christian was undefeated in winning the Sacramento Metro Athletic League championship, and the Lions advanced to the CIF Northern California Regional Division V playoffs.

The 6-foot, 225-pound Perchaz was the Lions’ leading rusher last fall with 635 yards and seven touchdowns. On defense, he made 66 tackles and had two sacks, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two blocked field goals.

Perchaz also played basketball and baseball and Monday, he caught a fly ball in right field for the final out in Valley Christian’s 3-1 victory over Tracy-Millennium in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII championship game.
