Roseville girls place in middle school wrestling tournament

Lauren Mason and Marissa Thomas of Roseville placed second and fourth in the Middle School Girls State Wrestling Tournament last weekend in Vallejo.

Mason, who attends E.V. Cain Middle School, entered the tournament as an unseeded wrestler, but she advanced to the final in her weight class with upset victories over seeded competitors. Mason lost in the final seconds to returning champion Mackenzie Basich 4-3 in the championship match.

Thomas, who attends Silverado Middle School and competes with the Crazywolf Wrestling Club, also was unseeded going into the tournament, but she advanced to the semifinals before being beaten.

Jessup University plans soccer camp
William Jessup University’s women’s soccer program, which won the California Pacific Conference championship last fall, is planning three camps in the coming months, starting April 18-21. Other camps are planned for July 18-21 and Aug. 1-4.

Featuring college coaches and players, the camps will include team development and tactics, shooting, defending, one-on-one attacking and defending, goalkeeper training and agility training.

The April camp is commuter only and costs $125.

Jesuit Junior Marauders taking signups
The Jesuit Junior Marauders will hold registration for players and cheerleaders from 1 to 5 p.m. April 17 in the Jesuit High School gymnasium. Launched last Nov. 6, the Junior Marauders will compete this fall in the Sacramento Youth Football league.

Jessup to hold 13th golf fundraiser
The 13th annual Warrior Golf Classic, a four-man scramble that benefits the William Jessup University athletic department, will be held Friday, April 29, at Sunset Whitney Country Club in Rocklin.

The cost is $175, which includes lunch, dinner, green fees, cart, range balls and raffle prizes. The top three teams win awards, and there will be contests for the longest drive, hole in one, putting, most accurate drive and closest to the pin. The cost for dinner only is $40. Proceeds go toward scholarships and Jessup’s operating budget.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. followed by a putting contest and lunch at noon. The shotgun start is at 1 p.m.

Tiger Fast Break 5K is April 30
The fourth annual Tiger Fast Break 5K fun run/walk will be held at 9 a.m. April 30 at Roseville High School.

The event benefits the Roseville High School journalism program. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each division. All runners will receive breakfast, water and a T-shirt.

Morgan Creek will hold PGA junior camps
Morgan Creek Golf Club in Roseville will be host to one of several PGA TOUR Academy Junior Golf Camps this summer.

Dates for the camps are June 20-24, July 11-15 and Aug. 1-5. Full-day camps are open to golfers of all skill levels from the ages of 9-16. Half-day camps are open to golfers 7-13. Full-day camps cost $595 and half-day camps $295.

The curriculum includes swing mechanics, short game and strategies pertaining to the mental aspects of the game, according to a news release. A review of golf jargon, etiquette and sportsmanship also will be covered.

Open-water swim at Folsom Lake
The fifth annual Folsom Lake Open Water Swim is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, at Beals Point on Folsom Lake, on the corner of Oak Hill Drive and Auburn-Folsom Road in Granite Bay.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and features distances of six-tenths of a mile, 1.2 miles and 2.4 miles. The course is triangular, and the 1.2- and 2.4-mile swims will be run concurrently.

Cost is $35 for early registration and $40 after June 5.

Wetsuits are allowed, but not needed.
