Roseville gathering contributes to handstand world record
When the clock struck 10 bells Saturday morning, 116 people on the football field at Woodcreek High School and 24 at Byers Gymnastics Center in Roseville stood on their hands in an attempt to break the world record for handstands performed at the same time.
The record was broken, and then some. USA Gymnastics celebrated National Gymnastics Day with 20,478 handstands performed by more than 100 gymnastics clubs across the country, according to a news release.
The Woodcreek gathering included Byers gymnasts, Woodcreek cheerleaders and others.
“It was a blast,” Byers co-owner Kim Bruns said, adding that the gymnasts and cheerleaders performed a running backhand spring.
The old record was 2,402, set in 2005 in Melbourne, Australia.
