After struggling out of the gate in the new season, the Roseville High boys basketball team finally put one in the win column Saturday. The Tigers captured the seventh-place game at the Hiram Johnson Warrior Classic with a 53-40 win over West Campus. Roseville got out to a slow start, but stayed with it and scored 23 of its 53 points in the final period when it outscored West Campus 23-6 to take the lead and win going away. “It was obviously a great day for us,” said Roseville coach Greg Granucci. “We played real well and our defense was outstanding.” The Tigers were down nine (32-23) midway through the third quarter before a 30-8 closing run helped them find victory. Jordan Magnusson earned all-tournament honors with his second straight outstanding performance. The senior point guard scored 15 in Saturday’s win. “Josh Pulver and Matt Hack were big for us,” Granucci said. “They defended extremely well and we rebounded very well.” Where turnovers had been a huge problem for the Tigers in their prior games, in this game the turnovers they forced aided greatly in the win. Warren Chabrier scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half. Nick Schwyzer scored eight and Matt Hack added six points. ‘I’m proud of the way the boys played,” Granucci said. “I’m happy for them. This is a great reward for all of their hard work.” Roseville is back in action at home Monday night at 7 p.m. against Casa Roble.
