Employees of Roseville’s Blockbuster Video got a holiday surprise in the last days of December, learning that the store was no longer slated for axing by its corporate ownership.

Management at Blockbuster Video confirmed that the store was put into a liquidation process in early December. However, by the time the store closed and locked its doors on Dec. 22, employees had been notified that the liquidation was cancelled and the store would remain open. Blockbuster re-opened its doors on Dec. 28 under a large outdoor banner that reads, “Open again — We’re Listening!”

Store management said the seven-day closure, which spanned Christmas, was necessary to get its sales floor ready for customers again.

According to Reuters, Blockbuster Video’s parent company Dish Network Corp. closed around 500 Blockbuster locations in 2012.
