Roseville author wins screenplay award

The Moondance Internat-ional Film Festival has named Sun City Roseville resident Jennifer Martin as the winner of the Columbine award for her first screenplay, “The Hunatics Club.” Martin will travel to Boulder, Colo., Aug. 31 to pick up the award. The Columbine award is given to an author whose work promotes and reflects non-violent conflict resolution or alternatives to violence. “The Hunatics Club” features three teenagers in Makawao, a small cowboy town in Maui, who are trying to stop a menacing thunderstorm utilizing their knowledge of Huna, the ancient tradition of kahunas or sham-ans of Hawaii. Martin is also the author of the novel “The Huna Warrior: The Magic Begins,” which won a bronze medal for best visionary fiction at the 2007 Independent Publishers of America awards program. She will be signing books at the California State Fair’s authors’ booth on Aug. 19, 25, 27 and 28.
