For Tom Lumbrazo, an encounter with an angel 11 years ago taught him about love for all of creation.

He seeks that creation in the world around him, including in cloud formations and in the large canvasses he paints. The Roseville resident’s art and photography will be displayed at the Downtown Roseville Library for the month of December.

Attendees can view the exhibit during the 3rd Saturday Art Walk on Dec. 15, which will feature a performance by guitarist Stephen Holland.

“Tom’s art is inspired by amazing events that have happened in his life beginning with a potentially fatal car accident,” said Leslie Goto, of Roseville Libraries. “Since then he has been on a journey, seeking answers to life’s many mysteries. His answers manifest into paintings and photographs, which the Roseville Library is proud to display.”

Lumbrazo’s story of his angel encounter in 2001 will appear as one of 100 short stories in “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Angels Among Us,” scheduled to be released Jan. 1.

“I am especially excited in that these books by ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ are so well read in the country and world,” Lombrazo said.

His story, “Proof Positive,” tells of an experience he had while driving on Highway 65. As he approached the Sunset intersection, he heard a male voice tell him to slow from 60 mph to 35 mph, so he did. Seconds later, a car swerved in front of him and Lumbrazo hit the other vehicle.

Lumbrazo suffered chest and leg injuries. He wonders what would have happened if he kept driving at 60 mph and not slowed down.

“At that moment, I realized something important and amazing just happened,” he said. “But I wanted to know more of who that voice was.”

He found his answer four years later in the vision of an angel dressed in full armor and with a sword on a horse. He learned the image represented Archangel Michael. Then, in 2008, he saw that same angel in a cloud formation in Arizona and snapped a photo.
