Cyclists from Roseville and Granite Bay competed Sunday in the NorCal High School Cycling League’s “Ride at the Raceway” at Laguna Seca in Monterey, a course packed with ascents and descents, dust and more.
Neilson Powless, a Roseville sophomore who competes independently, dominated early races at Folsom Lake, but he placed second to Jacob Albrecht of Santa Cruz Composite when Albrecht made a pass at the finish line.
Other top local finishers were Bryce Lewis of Woodcreek, runner-up in the JV boys D1 race; Alex Smith, fourth in the freshman boys D2 race; and Connor Jinguji of Woodcreek, fifth in the freshman boys D1 race.
Also for Granite Bay, Abby Murer was 17th in the freshman girls race, Ryan Joy 17th in freshman boys, Nicolas Decavel-Bueff 24th and Tyler Soares 42nd in sophomore boys, and David Dodd 36th, Bailey Earhart 45th and Kevin Khieu 62nd in JV boys.
