Roseville’s Orange Crush places five in top five at wrestling nationals
Roseville Wrestling Club’s Orange Crush had five top-five finishers at the National United Wrestling Association for Youth National Championships last weekend in Battle Creek, Mich.
Frankie Bonilla went 3-0 and won the championship in the 52-pound 6-and-under division. He registered pins in 45 and 36 seconds and won a 10-0 major decision in the final.
Ray Ray Harris and Devin Zavala each went 3-1 and placed third. Harris overcame a 12-9 loss in the first round of the 43-pound, 7-and-under bracket to win by 14-1 major decision, by pin at 1:15 and by 8-3 decision in his final match.
Zavala, wrestling at 37 pounds in the 6-and-under class, started with a 9-1 major decision, got pinned, then rebounded to win by pin at 2:31 and by 10-6 decision for third place.
Also, Anthony Harris finished second at 40 pounds, 6 and under. He won an 11-0 major decision and lost 2-0 in the final.
James Durham won an 8-5 decision to finish fifth at 135 pounds, 11-12 years.
BMR drivers fifth, sixth in Arizona
Bill McAnally Racing drivers Eric Holmes and Cameron Hayley finished fifth and sixth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 on Saturday at Havasu 95 Speedway in Arizona.
Holmes started eighth and ran as high as third on the quarter-mile track. Hayley started sixth and climbed to third before contact late in the race with points leader David Mayhew dropped him to seventh.
Dylan Hutchison, a regular at All American Speedway, started 14th and finished 12th in the 22-car field. The Del Campo High School student was the last car on the lead lap.
Derek Thorn won the pole and scored his first victory in eight Pro Series West starts.
