Roseville’s Cunha earns Sac-Joaquin Section Lacky/CSEA Scholarship
Roseville High School senior Zac Cunha was one of 50 winners of the annual A. Dale Lacky/CSEA Scholarships, announced Wednesday by the Sac-Joaquin Section.
Cunha has played football, basketball and baseball all four years for the Tigers and last fall earned an All-Sierra Foothill League first-team honor after leading the league in passing. Cunha signed a national letter of intent to attend Minot State University in North Dakota.
Cunha, who carries a 3.96 GPA, also has been a member of the school’s student government and Campus Beautification Committee. He has volunteered for High School On the Hill and youth football camps.
The section awarded $35,800 in scholarships to 50 winners, according to a news release. Cunha earned a $600 scholarship. The $1,500 Clarke Coover Scholarship Award went to Cassidy Heckman of Atwater and Tanner Nissen of Capital Christian.
The winners will be honored at the section’s Breakfast Awards Ceremony at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Hutchins Street Square in Lodi.
Two Marinoble’s fighters score victories
Two fighters from Marinoble’s in Roseville recorded victories last weekend in Sacramento and Reno.
Anthony Hernandez improved to 5-0 by stopping his opponent with a triangular choke one minute into their 185-pound bout on a Reno Combat MMA card. Hernandez has won three fights by knockout, one by decision and one by submission.
Reynolds, 18, fought on an IKF Championship Muay Thai kickboxing program Friday at the Woodlake Hotel in Sacramento. Reynolds, fighting at 142 pounds, scored a knockout with 10 seconds remaining in the third round.
