A Rocklin man arrested in the alleged beating of an elderly man that stemmed from a road rage incident had a brush with the law days earlier after a Roseville supermarket tussle.

Zubin Bogdanoff, 33, of Rocklin, was arrested Saturday and was in Placer County Jail on a $50,000 bail hold in connection with an alleged assault on the elderly man Saturday.

According to Rocklin Police, officers responded to a report of a physical fight after a road-rage incident.

“Officers arrived and quickly discovered an elderly male victim had been physically beaten inside his garage, suffering significant injuries,” Rocklin Police said in a statement.

The Journal has learned that Bogdanoff, who is jailed on charges of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, burglary and felony elder abuse, was cited on a petty theft charge and released on a promise to appear after a disturbance Wednesday inside a Roseville supermarket.

Roseville Police Sgt. Jason Bosworth said Monday that officers responded to an initial report of an irate customer in the Foothills Boulevard Save-Mart store. An employee reported being in a physical fight with the subject, who was twice as big as him, Bosworth said.

The employee was attempting to detain, Bogdanoff on suspicion of shop-lifting, Bosworth said, citing the police report.

On Saturday, Rocklin Police stated Bogdanoff allegedly followed the unidentified victim to his Roseville home, where an assault occurred in the victim’s garage.

The victim suffered significant injuries and was taken to hospital, according to the Rocklin police report. A neighbor who tried to intervene was also injured, police said. And as Bogdanoff drove off, he is alleged to have tried to run over a witness who was calling the police, the report said.

Bogdanoff is to be arraigned Wednesday in North Auburn on the assault charges. He is also charged with battery of a witness who came to the elderly man’s aid.
