Residents can report landfill odor online

Online form released in response to public workshop in November

The Western Placer Waste Management Authority is now providing an online odor complaint form for residents to report smells possibly coming from the landfill.

“The goal of an online form is to provide an additional and convenient way for (residents) to contact us regarding any odor concerns,” according to a news release issued by the agency.

During a public workshop held in November, residents of Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln expressed concern over smells that may be emitting from the Western Regional Sanitary Landfill, located in an unincorporated area of Placer County.

The agency also operates a materials recovery facility and a composting facility at the site. A 2007 report found that compost operations and methane gas produced as waste decomposes are the two main sources of on-site odor. But the agency is still trying to get a better handle on the odor problem.
