Roseville police were called to the scene of another stabbing incident in Old Town Roseville, this one occurring Saturday.
According to Roseville police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther, the incident took place at 12:40 a.m. on the 300 block of Lincoln Street, near the Barker Hotel.
“A woman was walking on the sidewalk, when a man she didn’t know approached her, stabbed her in the abdomen and tugged on her purse strap,” Gunther said in a statement. “He didn’t get the purse and ran away in the direction of the railroad tracks.”
Roseville police officers rushed to the scene as the victim was transported to an area hospital. Witnesses to the stabbing helped the police identify the suspect, 26-year-old Shane Michael England of Roseville. England was reportedly living in one of the district’s hotels.
Police found England within half an hour of the assault and arrested him on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery.
