Placer County law enforcement agencies arrested at least 36 people for driving under the influence between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, according to the most recent reports from the county’s Avoid the 7 DUI enforcement period.

That brings the number of total arrests of the whole period, Dec. 14, 2012 through Jan. 1, to 86, and no fatalities were reported during that time, said Louis Costanza, a public information officer for the program.

Last year, the period ran two days fewer and featured 71 DUI arrests.

The agencies involved in the effort are the California Highway Patrol’s Auburn office, Auburn Police Department, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Rocklin Police Department, Roseville Police Department, Lincoln Police Department and California State Parks.

The numbers for this year are still considered preliminary, as four of the departments had yet to report arrests from Jan. 1, Costanza said.
