The pairings are set for the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section baseball and softball playoffs.

Granite Bay and Woodcreek will be among nine teams vying to become the new Division II baseball champion after 2011 champ Roseville didn’t qualify.

Sierra Foothill League runner-up Rocklin (20-6) meets Metro League runner-up Rosemont (13-12) at 4 p.m. Thursday at American River College, followed by SFL No. 3 Woodcreek (20-6) against Capital Valley Conference champ Bella Vista (20-6) at 7 p.m.

SFL champ Granite Bay (20-6) opens at 7 p.m. Friday against the winner of Monday’s outbracket game between CVC No. 3 Del Campo (13-14) and Metro No. 3 Burbank (11-10).

CVC runner-up Oakmont (18-8) opens at 4 p.m. Friday against Metro champ McClatchy (19-7). It will be the first postseason appearance for the Vikings since 2006, when they lost to Fairfield-Vanden for the Division III championship.

“It’s always fun. That’s what your goals are, get to the playoffs,” Oakmont coach Dean Perkins said Thursday. “It’s the closest thing we get to a Friday night football game.”

Sacramento Metro Athletic League champion Valley Christian Academy (19-6) opens the Division VII playoffs against Mountain Valley League runner-up Groveland-Tioga at 7 p.m. Wednesday at McAuliffe Memorial Ballparks in Sacramento. The Lions are hunting for their fourth section title in five years.

On the diamonds at the Sacramento Softball Complex, Woodcreek and Roseville (17-7-1) are in the bottom half of the Division II bracket for their openers at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Timberwolves (20-4), who placed second to Del Oro in the SFL, will play Metro League runner-up Kennedy. The Tigers will face CVC champ Casa Roble (16-4), which beat Del Oro for the 2011 title.

Valley Christian, the No. 3 team in the SMAL, opens the Division VII playoffs against Lodi-Elliot Christian at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Lodi Softball Complex.
