By: Staff report
Volunteers needed for upcoming 2008-2009 term
The Superior Court of California, county of Placer, is seeking applications from Placer County citizens interested in an opportunity to serve on the 2008-2009 grand jury. The grand jury's term will be from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. By law, the grand jury is comprised of citizens who are responsible for conducting independent and nonbiased investigations and making reports concerning all aspects of the operations of both city and county government. In addition, the grand jury may be called upon to hear evidence in selected criminal cases. In order to meet the minimum qualifications for service on the grand jury, applicants must be United States citizens who are 18 years of age or older, and have resided in Placer County for a minimum of one year immediately prior to becoming a grand juror. Service on the grand jury requires a substantial investment of time, usually 25-30 hours per month. There may be several grand jury meetings each week and, in addition, members of the grand jury routinely make visits to various public offices and officials in carrying out their responsibilities. The application deadline is at 4 p.m. Friday, May 23. Additional information and applications for grand jury service are available by contacting the Placer Court executive office at (530) 889-7404, or by visiting the court's Web site at www.placer.-courts.ca.gov.
