Pianist Todd Schroeder returns to Roseville

Will host concert, sold-out workshop on auditioning

Accomplished pianist and composer Todd Schroeder returns to Roseville with a performance at the historic Tower Theater Sunday.

He was in town in November as a guest of nonprofit production and training company Stand Out Talent.

"(We) are privileged to have him back ... and anyone who loves music, being entertained and laughing should attend," said founder Jennifer Bortz.

During the show, she will sing a duet with Schroeder.

"It's an amazing honor for me considering all of the people he works with daily," she said.

Schroeder started playing piano at age 4 and is now a composer, producer, arranger and musical director. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and the White House, and appeared on several television shows, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Schroeder has collaborated with such artists as Angela Lansbury, Nell Carter, Jason Alexander, Rita Coolidge, David Burnham and Sam Harris. He has also been a casting consultant and audition pianist for several Broadway shows, including "Wicked," "Rent" and "The Lion King."

In addition to Sunday's performance, Schroeder will lead a two-day class on how to audition and work in musical theater. That workshop is sold out. Participants from the class will perform in the concert, as if they're auditioning.

"Todd then discusses with the audience, in a positive, still teaching sort-of-way, what worked, what didn't and how they can continue to work toward their goals," Bortz said. "It's an amazing opportunity for the public to see exactly what performers go through at a professional audition."

The show's second act involves Schroeder playing piano and entertaining.

"He talks, banters and laughs and makes you feel like you're at a party in your very own living room," Bortz said.
