Peeples-Bright paints a world of "beasties"

Blue Line Gallery exhibit runs through July 14

Lativa-born Maija Peeples-Bright had planned a career in mathematics, but that took a drastic turn when she enrolled in an art class at the University of California, Davis in the early 1960s.

That happened to be during the heyday of the California Funk Movement, and Peeples-Bright studied under some of the biggest-name artists of the era. She now paints and creates colorful ceramics featuring animals she calls her "beasties." See her creations on display in the Maija's World of Woof exhibit at the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville.
