-A +A
A Granite Bay organization educated the public about disabilities at an event held over the weekend. A Touch of Understanding’s youth group (Friends Offering Respect – Creating Empowerment) held its annual Paws with a Cause festival that aimed to enlighten the public about the challenges of disabilities, as well as educate people as to the importance of service dogs in the community. The event hosted demonstrations by the Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate, the Placer County Sheriff K-9 Unit; the students of Kovar’s Satori Academy, Katie Wilmarth and Tony Huges. A Touch of Understanding’s executive assistant Michelle Mark said the event went incredibly well. “It was great,” she said. “We had a wonderful turnout.” A Touch of Understanding is a non-profit organization that provides disability awareness programs designed to educate a new generation to understand the challenges associated with disabilities and to accept and respect all individuals. ~ Staff report
