Who needs Hollywood?

A future of bright lights and paparazzi is coming to Roseville in the form of an open casting call for the pilot for a new television comedy sitcom called "Better Than Unemployed?"

The show is about a newly employed woman, Sam, who is forced to take a job as an event director after months of searching. But she soon discovers her boss is preoccupied with his 23-year-old stripper girlfriend and her assistant is perpetually on valium.

Not to mention, she's walked into a disastrous beer tradeshow and has to deal with a drunk fraternity, the wrong keynote speaker and much more.

The two local companies behind the pilot are hoping the show will put the greater Sacramento area on the production map.

Quad Air Communications, around since 1984, and M Communications, a local marketing and public relations firm, teamed up to produce the pilot and casting call.

"The project is very timely considering current unemployment issues and is a hilarious mix of 'The Office' meets 'Arrested Development,'" said Al Gonzalez, of Quad Air Communications, who is executive producer and director of "Better Than Unemployed?"

M Communications CEO Michele Smith, who is writing and co-producing the show, said anyone who's ever had a horrible boss or attended a tradeshow will find the pilot episode hilarious.
