Oakmont, Roseville, Woodcreek unbeaten on first day of softball TOC

Oakmont, Roseville and Woodcreek high schools combined to go 4-0 on the first day of the Victory Pre-Season TOC.

Playing at the Sacramento Softball Complex, Oakmont defeated Fairfield-Armijo 6-4 and Colfax 11-4, and Roseville topped El Camino 6-2. At Bartholomew Park in Elk Grove, Woodcreek defeated Pleasant Grove 5-2.

Oakmont (4-1) pitcher Lara Lema recorded the win against Armijo, and Savannah Loomis helped her cause against Colfax by going 3 for 3 with a home run. Sophomore Krysten McCue had a homer and four RBI against Colfax, and freshman Kaylyn Slatter was 3 for 4 against Armijo.

Woodcreek (3-0) erased an early 2-0 deficit by scoring at least one run each in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Christal Vierra homered and went 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs. Jessica Nogosek and Amanda Horbasch each drove in a run, and Lexi Wilkerson allowed no runs in the final six innings, scattering six hits, walking one and striking out four.

Roseville (2-0) hammered 16 hits in beating El Camino, including three each by senior Delany DeMello and freshman Allison Manzo. Senior Kayla Fields, junior Taylor Brewster-McDowell and sophomore Naomi Monahan had two hits apiece. Inside the circle, Fields struck out 10 in four innings.

Woodcreek plays Vacaville-Wood at 10:45 a.m. and Lowry at 3:15 p.m. at Bartholomew. Roseville plays Reed at 3:15 p.m. and Placer at 5 at the Sacramento complex. Consolation and championship play is Saturday at both parks.


Boys golf


Granite Bay 187, Placer 207 — Bryan Wise shot a 1-over-par 36 and Brandon Baumgarten and Jeffrey Inouye-Wong each shot 37 to lift the Grizzlies over the Hillmen at Granite Bay Golf Club.

Oakmont 203, Roseville 259 — Corey Eddings had a 2-over 38 at Sierra View in the Vikings’ victory over the Tigers.
