Oakmont-Roseville Rotary girls event turns 40, tops tourney list

Foundation Games were played Monday, a dress rehearsal for high school basketball season. Now comes the real thing. Nonleague tournaments tipped off this week and will continue throughout December before conference play commences in January. Here is a list of tournaments involving local teams this weekend and next:

 

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

 

Bronco Roundup (at Bella Vista): Granite Bay and Oakmont could be matched today in a semifinal (at 7 p.m.), the losers’ bracket (4 p.m.) or not at all, depending on the outcomes of Thursday night’s first-round games. The Grizzlies open with Chico at 5:30 p.m., and the Vikings play Franklin at 8:30. The tournament wraps up Saturday with games at 2:30 p.m., 4, 5:30 and the championship at 7.

Argonaut QBC Tournament (in Jackson): Roseville opened with an 88-31 romp over Linden on Wednesday and will play Friday at 7 p.m. The championship game is at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Daniel Rios was one of five Tigers in double figures with 17 points, and Roseville shot to leads of 22-3 after one quarter and 52-7 at halftime.

Oakmont JV Classic: Host Oakmont and Granite Bay are in a field that includes Jesuit and Sierra Foothill League teams Rocklin and Nevada Union and Capital Valley Conference schools Bella Vista and Del Campo. Friday’s games are scheduled for 3:30 p.m., 5, 6:30 and 8. The title game is at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Rocklin Frosh Tournament: Granite Bay and Oakmont are in this 16-team field, which features eight games in the big and small gyms at 3:30 p.m., 5, 6:30 and 8 Friday and a full slate of games Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

DECEMBER 6-8

Oakmont-Roseville Rotary (at Oakmont): Thursday, Roseville vs. Folsom, 3:30 p.m.; Hamilton vs. Stockton-Excel Academy, 5; Del Oro vs. Bella Vista, 6:30; Mesa Verde vs. Oakmont, 8. Dec. 7 games at 3:30 p.m., 5, 6:30 and 8. Dec. 8 games at 1:30 p.m., 3, 4:30 and 6 (championship).

Del Oro Varsity Invitational: Thursday, Oakmont vs. River City, 4 p.m.; Bella Vista vs. Whitney, 5:30; Del Oro vs. Paradise, 7; Lincoln vs. Capital Christian, 8:30. Dec. 7 games at 4 p.m., 5:30, 7 and 8:30. Dec. 8 games at 10:30 a.m., 3, 4:30 and 6 (championship).

Stonebarger Tournament (in Brentwood): Roseville again travels out of the area and will open against Benicia at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Winners’ and losers’ bracket games will be held Dec. 7 with the championship at 5 p.m. Dec. 8.

Folsom-Vista Varsity Invitational: Thursday at Folsom, Folsom vs. El Dorado, 7 p.m.; Rocklin vs. Fremont-American, 8:30; at Vista del Lago, Vista del Lago vs. Del Campo, 7 p.m.; Center vs. Woodcreek, 8:30. Dec. 7 games at 4 p.m., 5:30, 7 and 8:30 at Folsom. Dec. 8 games at 1:30 p.m., 3, 4:30 and 7:30 (championship).

Viking Classic (at Victory Christian): Thursday, Valley Christian Academy vs. Bear River, 5:30 p.m.

Del Oro JV Invitational (at Yokote Gym): Thursday, Bella Vista vs. Whitney, 4 p.m.; Oakmont vs. River City, 5:30; Lincoln vs. Capital Christian, 7; Del Oro vs. Paradise, 8:30. Dec. 7 games at 4 p.m., 5:30, 7 and 8:30. Dec. 8 games at 10:30 a.m. and noon at Yokote Gym and noon and 1:30 p.m. at Bonner Gym.
