Woodcreek shoots for NCGA Zone title

Brad Ables, Gary Costello, Keith Erickson and Paul Valdez, representing
Woodcreek Golf Club, will compete in the 44th annual NCGA Zone Championship on Monday and Tuesday at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.

The foursome scored a five-stroke victory with a 37-under-par 249 total in winning the NCGA East Sacramento Zone Championship in June at Poppy Hills and Quail Lodge in Carmel. The Ridge of Auburn also qualified for the Zone Championship.

Hesston College adds to local flavor

Woodcreek High School graduate Hayley Gately is part of the latest softball
recruiting class at Hesston College in Kansas.

Gately joins 2010 Roseville graduate Emily Wagner-Davis on the Larks’ roster. Davis split time between left field and second base last spring and hit .295 (39 for 132) with 17 runs and 17 RBI for Hesston, a two-year liberal arts school that competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association. Hesston was 18-25 last season.

Gately, a third baseman/outfielder, was an All-Sierra Foothill League selection for Woodcreek last season. She was second on the team with a .348 batting average and led the Timberwolves (18-7-1) with 21 RBI and 10 doubles.
