Oakmont grad Guilmet earns New York Penn League honors

Playing in his first assignment as professional baseball player, former Oakmont High and University of Arizona pitcher Preston Guilmet is enjoying good success in the Single A short season New York Penn League. Drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the ninth round of this year's June draft, Guilmet is 5-2 with a a 2.72 ERA. The right-hander has pitched a total of 49.2 innings, surrendering 39 hits, while walking 12 and striking out 45 as a starter for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Guilmet was named the New York Penn League pitcher of the week for the period between August 3 and August 9. He made two starts for the Scrappers, going 2-0 with a total of 10 innings pitched between the two games. Guilmet struck out a career high 10 Vermont batters in five innings on August 8.
