Oakmont girls roll over Pioneer, improve to 12-3
Oakmont High School’s girls basketball team scored 57 points in the middle two quarters and scored an 88-46 nonleague romp over Pioneer on Thursday night in Woodland.
Brittany Martin scored 25 points and Emilee Gavia 22 for the Vikings (12-3), who are idle until they play host to Granite Bay on Jan. 3 and travel to Roseville on Jan. 4 in their final two nonleague games.
Kelsey Caudill scored 12 points and Tiana Dorsey came off the bench to score 10 for the Vikings, who were playing their first game in six days.
“We were a little rusty coming back from break,” first-year head coach Zach Lovell said, adding Oakmont “hit a bunch of shots in the third” quarter.
Granite Bay 55, Rio Linda 34 — The Grizzlies (7-6) shot to a 20-6 lead after one quarter and coasted to a blowout victory over the Knights in the first round of the 22nd annual Lincoln Invitational.
Freshman Daeja Black scored 16 points on 50-percent shooting, grabbed five rebounds, handed out five assists and made three steals to lead Granite Bay. Sophomore Annie Wright grabbed 18 rebounds and leads the team with 9.8 per game. She also scored 12 points.
Senior captains Katrina Reeves and Gia France also came up big for Granite Bay. Reeves had 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals. France had seven points, 13 rebounds and two steals.
The Grizzlies play host Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. The Fighting Zebras (6-3) beat Wheatland 50-29 on Thursday.
Davis 63, Roseville 30 — The Tigers (2-10) trailed 31-10 at halftime in their loss to the Blue Devils in the first round of the Dixon Ram Jam Tournament. Roseville plays Vacaville on Friday night.
Paso Robles 59, Roseville 52 — The Tigers were 6 for 21 from the free-throw line and suffered their first loss of the season. Roman Tyukayev scored 15 points, Matt Tawlks 13 and Marcus Garcia nine as Roseville (13-1) fell to the Bearcats (3-7) in the first round of the Atascadero Christmas Tournament.
The Tigers play again Friday night.
