Using its lethal inside-outside combination, the Oakmont High boys basketball team jumped out early and raced to an impressive first round win at the Bella Vista Bronco Roundup Thursday. The Vikings improved their season record to 2-0 behind 17 points from 6-foot-8 big man Tony Gill. His team took a 14-7 lead after one quarter and then extended the margin to 10 by halftime before ultimately capturing a 56-37 win. Oakmont’s lowest-scoring period of the game, the second, matched Pleasant Grove’s best single-stanza output, which came in the fourth period, at 13 points. The Vikings scored consistently throughout the contest, with Alex Ford providing the outside punch with 13 points and 6-6 forward J.T. Adenrele complementing Gill inside with a 10-point night. Oakmont will next face Franklin (Elk Grove) in the second round of the tournament at 7 p.m. Friday night.
